I’m back from a quick weekend in Chicago. And I’m exhausted. We kept moving the whole time and I landed back in Charleston at 11 last night. It was such a fun time. I stayed with my friend Jeanette, she and I are friends from high school.

Aren’t the leaves pretty? It was freezing. Like high of 50 all weekend. Was a nice little change from the heat we’ve had here though. We pretty much shopped and ate our way through the weekend. Tons of walking, so I have very little guilt over all the amazing food I shoveled into my mouth. Breakfasts at Toast and Nookies……. Some pizza from Lou Malnati’s, snacks from the Wit’s roof bar and Untitled, and the most amazing asian dinner with some bloggy friends at Sunda.
Recognize Alex and Liz? You all know my love for Alex, and she just got back from her honeymoon! Wedding recaps on her blog all week long… But it was my first time to meet Liz. What a sweetie. And her family has a place outside of Charleston… I see more dinners in our future.
As for the shopping, my kids made out like bandits. But frankly they needed tons of clothes, they’re growing like weeds and the weather is changing. I did alright myself. A lot of tees and pants. And these high shine black skinnies I got from All Saints are my favorite.
Or maybe the Angel jeans that I got from Edith Hart are my favorite. Alex helped them with their interior design and I knew I had to stop in. Such a great boutique in Bucktown. Here I am with the owner, Morgan.
I kinda lived in my Anthropologie Lyra booties that I picked up. They’re shimmery suede, comfy, and only $100. Great shoe. And I totally lived in my Veda leather jacket. Thank goodness I brought it! I also had dinner with an old friend that I hadn’t seen in nearly 15 years. So bummed we didn’t get a picture. It was great seeing you, Brenna!! Oh, and Jeanette also insisted that I do one touristy thing. Since we walked right by it, I obliged. The Bean.
Good weekend. Need to get up there again! I hope you all had a fun weekend, too.

At least in my mind. Sally King Benedict, Kate Long Stevenson, Mary Nelson Sinclair, and Amanda Talley joined forces for a show at Blueprint in Dallas last weekend. Talent abound. You have no idea how bummed I am that I wasn’t present for this greatness…

These photos are taken from the artists themselves. They’re not fancy. They’re just real. Enjoy :)

Kate…

And Kate’s husband showing off his woman’s work…

 Sally King Benedict, y’all!

 Kate…

Sally again… These colors… so good.

A little Mary Nelson… she’s one of Sally’s long time besties. Pretty freaking good, right? That bottom middle piece makes me want to pull out my wallet. I just looked it up though, it’s sold.

And Kate again, that middle one might be my very favorite and should be in my house.

Oh look – Amanda Talley! Hello genius.

Here’s a picture of Mary Nelson. Isn’t she the cutest?

{Kate + her baby bump, Mary Nelson, and Sally}
I know! See more from Sally here, Kate here, Mary Nelson here, and Amanda here!!

I’m a meat and potatoes kind of girl. When I was little we lived on a farm. You do the math. I’ll never be able to give up cheeseburgers or fried chicken. But I try to eat a variety of foods, too. And one thing that I do struggle with is making vegetable at home. And the fact that I can get the most awful tummy aches after eating vegetables and fruit doesn’t help. What gives with that, anyway? Plate of fries? No problem. Sleeve o’ cookies? Easy. Broccoli? I’m miserable for at least 5 hours.

So when Claire of Heavy On The Veggie reached out to me, I took it as a sign. She’s a nurse practitioner with a focus on nutrition and exercise. And we have a few friends in common. Wasn’t long until we had a cooking party on the books…

This is Claire’s pretty kitchen. And that’s her on the right. And that’s Teal, in well, teal. She’s an artist. More on her later, this post is about food! Not art.
So the focus for dinner was eating vegetables simply. IE, something I might actually try to cook myself at home. We roasted broccoli (I know, at home I’ll switch it to cauliflower or something), grilled some okra, and made veggie pizzas. Even better, we had fun doing it.

Hey look, my friend Lulie was there. Again, this post is not about art, damn it…

But it is about wine.
I know okra seems like such a southern thing, but I swear it’s tasty. And I had never had it grilled – divine. Claire just tossed it with EVOO, seasoned salt, and a little red pepper.
For the pizzas we used tomato sauce or pesto (I did half and half) on Naan bread and then loaded up the veggies. Roasted peppers, onions, mushrooms, whatever you want. We make pizza at home a lot and I regularly use roasted red peppers. So good. The broccoli was just tossed with EVOO, salt and pepper and then roasted in the oven at 400 for about 20 minutes. Claire squeezed a lemon over it before serving.
Good, healthy food with good people just makes you feel good. I’ve made it a priority to eat more veggies during my day. Thanks for the gentle push and guidance, Claire. Your blog is such an inspiration! I’m feeling Heavy On The Veggie.
PS: I’m pinning lots of veggie recipes here. Don’t judge the other yummy recipes mixed in there. It’s all about balance, right? ;)

Forgive my lack of post yesterday. You see, I found another woman in my bed over the weekend.

Bahaha. But while we’re all studying my wrinkly sheets, who can tell me where I can find the best white sheets that don’t cost a million dollars? We need new ones. I know I used to like Pottery Barn’s.

I’ve also been busy finishing up a commission for the sweetest client. I hope you enjoy it, Pamela.
And speaking of art, I have one hell of an art show to share with you all later this week. A couple of my crazy talented friends headed down to TX and showed them what’s up… It’s going to be good, good, good.

Heads up to all you talented designers, I’d love to see you at Charleston Fashion Week
It’ll be here before we know it. You know what else will be? A million plants that I bought for our 4 humongous planters that sit across the front of our porch. I’m looking forward to getting them filled. Though Lilly will be disappointed, she likes to hide in them and pop out at people. Anyway, can we talk about how gorgeous these planters are featured on Coastal Living??

Today I’m visiting my friend Alex at Things That Sparkle. You know she just got married and all, so I’m helping to fill in while she takes a deserved break. Even more fun, I’ll be in Chicago this weekend partying with her :) YAY! Go see the post here.
This amazing party is via The Fresh Exchange

Lastly, a great big thank you to Miss Sarah Yang at House Beautiful for sharing my blog on your site (and reading LLL!). Made my day when I saw this.
