Who was surprised when J.Crew filed for bankruptcy in May? I shouldn’t have been, but I kind of was. I know they’ve have problems for years, but to me J.Crew is a staple that everyone knows and has a wider than wide customer base. So I was surprised. I love their brand and I love checking their new arrivals knowing that I’ll always be able to get excited about some new amazing dress or shoe or earring that isn’t a gazillion dollars. I truly feel like they have a solid mix of both every-day classic styles as well as more fashion forward trendy pieces. So I was surprised. I hope (and truly believe) they will be fine. They just need to rethink some things and work it all out. But I will say I’ve noticed some of the images and styling of their new arrivals feels more J.Crew Factory to me. Not the pieces since that would have already been done, just the photography and styling of them. I’m betting and hoping this is temporary and really just more due to Covid issues, which is likely the situation. (Who else has been majorly disappointed with Shopbop’s lack of imagery?) I like to see a model’s full face and not have it cut off. So for me scrolling through new arrivals now takes slightly more imagination but the point is, THEY’VE STILL GOT IT.
