What the heck? Are y’all seeing this stuff about oil pulling? So very, very new to me but I’m very intrigued. Apparently you swish organic coconut oil in your mouth for 20 minutes (!!) and then spit it out in the trash. Why? Fans say that it pulls toxins from your body (which is why you want to spit it out and not swallow). Benefits? Whiter teeth, healthier gums, clears skin, helps with sinus issues, cures a hangover… I mean, i know what you’re thinking. WHAT? Is this true? Have any of you tried it??? I want to give it a go.
Image and information from fashionlush. But seriously, what do you think?
Well, I don’t know about doing this every day, but I have swished for about 5 minutes when I feel a blister on gums and it has helped it heal quickly. I can’t make it through 20 minutes. But my teeth do feel cleaner and healthier the few times I have done it!
I’ve tried it a few times but not consistently enough to expect results. Don’t use lesser quality coconut oil; learned that one the hard way.
This is so weird, never heard of it. But maybe I’ll try it!

I’m a huge fan of coconut oil, and it has soooo many uses, but never heard of this! 20 min??? that’s a lot!
Okay, I’ve been reading about this too…I’m a little skeptical but I keep reading about people who swear by it! My mom told me about it the other day after she saw it on Dr. Oz or something too! I read you should try to start out with doing 5 mins. and work your way up. Let me know how it goes, I may try it just for the heck of it! haha
Not sure how I feel about this. Did you know that you’re suppose to brush your teeth for a full 2 minutes? On average, ppl spend about 20 seconds brushing their teeth. As a hygienist, I could barely talk my patients into spending the extra 30 seconds to floss their teeth. If someone is going to devote 20 minutes (!!!!!) to doing something for their gums/teeth, why don’t they just spend the extra 2 mins brushing and flossing? At least that has actually been “proven” to work.
Yep, I was like wtf, but I’m a believer after trying it and reading MANY articles, blogs and a book. I practically went thru a whole bottle in a month bc I went crazy! I use it for everything now! I blogged abt it too. Pretty weird but it does work! :)
I have been doing this for two weeks and I’ve not noticed any changes in my skin. I’m going to give it a month and see what happens. If you can make it through the first minute, it’s not bad!
I think this deserves a follow up post :)… good luck! Can’t wait to hear about it.
Sounds like something the coconut oil mfg. have come up with for sales! Yuck. One, I have taken a toxin blood test and two…I have had IV chelation treatments to pull them out of my system (if it were as easy as swishing coconut oil in my mouth I think would put many docs out of business!!). And, personally I have a VERY high sensitivity to coconut, so no swishing for me!!!
I’ve been seeing this all over facebook and I’m really intrigued. Apparently The Wellness Mama blog has a ton of into about using coconut oil for different remedies.
Aaaaannd, my mother in law JUST emailed me a coupon for coconut oil….
Not making this up! :)
Guess I have to try it now…
REALLY?! Very interesting. I’m def going to try. Can’t hurt right?
So funny because I just heard about this and tried it a few weeks ago. I could only swish the coconut oil around for about 5 min before I felt like I had to spit it out but I’m going to try again. My sister in law has been doing it for about a year and swears by it.
Oh dear…. I’ll probably gag too.
I don’t know…
I KNOW!! I saw it from 3 different people on Facebook and was like what what???
Ok so yesterday a friend posted about this on facebook… and today 2 of the blogs that I follow are writing about this… ?
is the social media universe in cahoots? {usually ;)}
Someone else said to use a ‘tongue scraper’ ?!? what the heck?
I am intrigued, but how in the world can you do this for 20 minutes???
I tried this! I use coconut oil for basically everything as it is. I gagged the second it went in my mouth and I feel like I have a pretty big tolerance to things like this!
