With the start of a new year and new calendar (I love this one), I always try to reflect positively on my intentions for the new year. Rather than focus on what I think I’ve been doing wrong or inadequately, why not celebrate a few of the things I’m proud of and want to carry with me into the new year?

doing right

I’ll leave it at 5, because starting off a new year with a big head wouldn’t be good, would it. Of course there is always room for improvement. So in 2014 I want to focus more on my family when I’m with them. As much as I love my iPhone, I use it way too much. It’s just such a habit. Another 2014 intention is to be a better meal planner. There are so many days that 4 o’clock hits and I have no idea what we’re doing for dinner and I just throw something together that I’m certainly not proud of. Lastly, I plan to develop my blog into a more creative space. I put a lot of my heart and time into this space and that is important to me. I want it to be a place that you all enjoy coming to. Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your days past and, I hope, 2014. If y’all have any thoughts or ideas I would love to hear them.

2013, overall, was a great year. It was most notably the year that gave me a better perspective on life – how precious it is and to not take any moment for granted. To appreciate simply being, along with all the good & exciting things that come along with being – such a valuable lesson that enhances my day to day.

If you follow my instagram over there on the right sidebar then you may have already seen this, but I wanted to share my 2013 reflections video right here as well. Don’t blink.

And let it also be filled with cheese and hot chocolate, of course.

I can say this because she happens to live on my block… My friend Calder Clark’s home is in this month’s (December) Southern Living all decked out in it’s holiday glory.

I was there this past weekend for our annual Festivus Christmas party and was dying to snap a picture of Calder holding the magazine story in front of her porch, but can you believe she didn’t even have a copy at her house??!! GAH!

Also, a much deserved shout out to my dear friend Haskell Harris who produced the story for Southern Living. Best eye in the biz. And congrats to Calder for the much deserved attention! Thanks for bringing us the holiday inspiration, Southern Living!

Stockings are fun. I love finding little prizes to tuck and hide in them. Small, big. You never know what you’ll find. I’m so happy to share some of my most favorite stocking stuffers with you all today that are full force Charleston style. Each of these items below are designed or made by Charleston creatives. And don’t worry if you’re not from Charleston, these goods can be appreciated well past our city limit. And seeing as how Charleston was recently named best city in the world by Conde Nast, well I think that makes these goods even more special. Enjoy.

Mornin’! Have a nice weekend? Ours was great. But I had intended to start some Christmas shopping and STILL haven’t. I need to get on it. I’ve been collecting a lot of ideas though. If you have any kids on your list I’m hoping this guide makes things a little bit easier on you. These are some great stand alone gifts and/or stocking stuffers. You could even use the adorable lunch boxes by Lulie Wallace as gift boxes. Plus it’s absolutely worth noting that for each lunch box purchased Lulie donates one lunch to Backpack Buddies, a group that provides weekend lunches to school kids in need. Isn’t that spectacular??! I love a gift that gives back – another good one like that is Toms Shoes. My kids love their Toms!

We either already have everything in this gift guide or have it on our list. Michelle’s Fink doll creations are definitely a favorite around here. You may remember our mermaid even made it into our kids’ rooms makeover story in the Land of Nod catalog. A few more of our favorite toys that are tried and true favorites but not shown above are the kids’ razor scooters, the wearable shark and flamingo, our teepee, Lilly’s dollhouse, Fletcher’s workbench, and our kitchen set (how freaking amazing is THIS one?).

Happy shopping!
