That first time one of my designs went to print. Like, print in a magazine. That time is this month because my dining room design is in HGTV’s May issue!!

Which basically means that you’ll find me in every magazine toting store in Charleston buying up the issue just so that I can casually mention to anyone in my vicinity that “I’m in it”!

I’m sure most of you recognize this as the dining room from my old house. I brought that chandelier here to our new home and it looks lovely here, too. Just so you know.

I share a page with Amanda Nisbet. Amanda Nisbet, y’all. Hell yes! Thank you HGTV. And an extra thank you to Rae McConville for bringing this whole color story to life. You rocked my world.

Alright, I’ve decided to tell you a side story to all this. For some reason I had in my head that my feature would be in the April issue (ooops). So last month I ran out to get the magazine (duh) and was quickly super bummed to flip through, not see my room, and think that I was cut. But I saw my friend Roxy in that issue so I was pretty pumped for her (her home’s gorgeous, did you see it?). But then I went back to being sad for myself. And THEN Lilly says “I know why you’re sad, Mom. You’re sad because your friend is in the magazine and you’re not.”

I mean, whoa. What an intuitive statement to come out of my 3 year old’s mouth. But Roxy, I swear it wasn’t like that, ha!

Anyway, it’s a little thing in the grand scheme of things. But between you and me, it’s pretty awesome, too :)

Today, at the age of 81, Lilly Pulitzer passed away. She was a beautifull woman who brought and shared color with generations.

There is a lovely little story showcased on the Lilly Pulitzer site. I quite enjoyed reading her start at the juice stand to becoming a favorite amongst socialites and celebrities, such as Jacqueline Kennedy.

“Lilly was a rule breaker. We love that.” I do, too. Rest in peace, Lilly.

Trying new things is pretty much my spice to life. I mean, there is very little that I love more than the search for pretty things and finding inspiration. Fashion, decorating, cooking, things to do… anything. Here are a few ideas to get your mojo going… Maybe you’ll come away with one or two things to try this weekend.

A Living Work Of Art:

I’m kind of gaga over this idea of sitting a vase of fresh flowers in an empty frame on your wall. I know, it would be a job with the upkeep. But would you ever try it? Thanks for the idea House of Fifty.

Dip Your Art:

This art piece by Oliver Jeffers has been making the rounds on pinterest. I’m fascinated by the idea of taking art, frame and all, and dipping it in a bold color. I just may try it, with an art print, of course. I love the idea of covering most of the piece, leaving her eyes peeking over. I mean, is she naked under there? Quirky.

Donut Stack:
No new idea here. But have you stacked your donuts in a tower? It’s just soooo much more enticing on a platter like this. I did this for the Home Depot girly luncheon I had at my house a couple of weeks ago. I’ll be sharing all these pictures soon. Thanks for this image, Gray.
Let ‘Em Fly:
Oh never mind. Maybe we should just leave this one to Claudia Schiffer.
Happy Friday!

** This post is for you, Janna **

There are many reasons why this dining room featured in House Beautiful captures me. Obviously the space itself is gorgeous. I mean, those window arches.

But I’m also drawn to the eclectic mix of pieces. And dare I say that my obsession for benches at dining tables isn’t going anywhere, it creates such an inviting and casual look. And it’s an especially fun juxtaposition in this fancy environment.
So here’s my take on how to get this look with a more “every day” feel.

Jonathan Adler Happy Chic Drapes – Just $40 & lots of colors
Verdeante Chandelier – ignore the price.
Vases – Grab a bunch in the same color family.
Throws to keep handy, these are my fave and only $30
Jute Rug (isn’t this amazing?)
Lastly, what do you think of the idea of displaying a collection on a rarely used dining table (points at self)? I think it’s brilliant. Off to brainstorm.

I got my hands on all the pictures from the Troubadour shoot for Glitter Guide. Olivia Rae James photography + the Troubadour spring collection is such a rockstar duo that it seemed a shame to not share.

The location is in Charleston, SC on Shem Creek and also on Lindsey’s boat. The clothing is by Troubadour and the jewels are by Candy Shop Vintage! What a beautiful day.

Above, Troubadour designer, Lindsey Carter, in the chevron dress. In the picture below, I’m wearing the Sedgewick Dress, Jackie Thompson in the middle is wearing the Punta Cana Pant and Tradd Scoop Neck Tee, and Lindsay Fleege is wearing the Souci Sheath Dress.
Deirdre Zahl’s in adorable pink Cap Cana Dress (as of today is sold out in the pink but other colors are still available, and more pink on the way later this month). On the right Hanna Seabrook is wearing the Kent Top and Slim Pants.
If you haven’t yet, check out the full story here on Glitter Guide.

A few big bang items to, you know, make your big bang.

The dandiest beach basket tote that I ever did see.
Can you even believe this flower mane necklace. Show stopper.
Love the pattern and colors of this zip clutch.
Little woven flats come to me.
This floral shift dress that sold out in seconds is back in stock (minus 1 that’s on it’s way to me).
Again, these Frieda & Nellie friendship bracelets are insane.
