The Giving Tree is a book that I read to Lilly every so often. I read it to her, but I’m reading for myself just as much. I think we all need reminders to give more than we take.

Have you read Shel Silverstein’s The Giving Tree? How do you feel about it? I know it’s quite controversial. But as sad as it makes me, I think it’s an important lesson and reminder in today’s busy world. I want to teach the value of giving to my children. This book is an easy way for me to get the conversation brought up.

It’s a goodie. Lilly knows the first half by heart.

I love The Giving Tree! I had no idea it was controversial–fascinating. I read it to my daughter many, many times when she was younger. She’s now 11 and the book is very special to both of us.

  4. I’ve always loved the giving tree, my Mom would read it to my brother, sister and I all the time when we were kids! I think it provides a great message that is easier for little ones to understand. And I had no idea it was so controversial!
